GM's official word on warranties
#1
I know there was a thread earlier with a link to USA Yesterday, but here is info straight from GM's website for those with a new GM car:

What does this mean for GM’s current customers and future car buyers?

For our current customers, GM will succeed and win by taking care of you every day. There will be no interruptions in GM’s ability to take care of our customers and honor customer programs,
warranties and provide replacement parts. In fact, GM has asked the court for specific orders authorizing GM to honor customer warranties and programs as it always has.

You should have total confidence that:
Our products are safe and sound;
We will honor your existing warranty;
-GM dealers will have the same access to replacement parts as they always have;
-Customers of discontinued brands or dealerships that have closed as part of GM’s viability initiative will continue to be supported by other GM dealerships;
-Customer promotions and incentives will continue without interruption;
-You do not need to do anything differently regarding your warranty;
-There is no impact on OnStar service; your OnStar subscription will remain in place
-GM continues to have a nation-wide network of Goodwrench technicians trained to perform maintenance and repairs on your GM vehicle

This is good news for customers who want to buy cars from an automaker with an award- winning lineup of cars and trucks with rock-solid warranties and other customer-support
programs, one that is a leader in green technology, and one that has a promising future.

All customers should have confidence in New GM’s ability to serve the needs to customers in every way, including the commitment and ability to honor warranties for many years to come.

Will New GM honor customer warranty claims?

Yes. GM will succeed and win by taking care of our customers every day. New GM will assume
the obligations to support the express warranties issued by GM to its customers.

Or ... at least until they no longer exist. Depending on how much oversight the Feds see fit to "provide", there is a distinct possibility that they don't survive. Our gov't doesn't exactly have a track record of doing things right.

I'm hoping they do succeed.

What they need is a car version of Steve Jobs.

Unless they put some engineers with vision in a position of authority it probably won't happen.

First order of business for the NGM (new General Motors) Fire everyone from the Manager level on up.

Period. Gone.

What has failed in this country is business leadership in general.
We've paid millions of dollars to "indispensable" executives who were so much smarter and more able than the average line worker. And for what?

The worst thing to happen to this country in the last 60 years was the creation of the MBA degree.

I do find it funny that the "little" guy gets fired and his butt is booted out the door.

The execs fail and they get a multimillion dollar golden parachute.

Having worked for 2 MBA'a at my previous employer, I would have to agree. Unfortunately, neither could grasp the difference between theory and reality. Maybe if they watched Back to School with Rodney, they may have understood better.:-)

Those very engineers were busy designing what Americans wanted for the last thirty years. What actually sold off the lots.

Has GM buried thousands of never sold cars out in the desert ?

I imagine the hundreds of thousands of people employed by GM directly and indirectly would call "winning a paycheck next week. Thier respective families might call it shopping at the grocery store and not having a mortgage foreclosed on.

My father told me of his first hand experience of burying brand new Jeeps and trucks in Hawaii after the end of WWII. They were afraid if they shipped back all the surplus from the war it would trash the automakers by flooding the market with cheap goods, so they just dug a big pit and buried them. He said they drove one in while pulling another with the tool kits still on them. He was in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor.
