help me defeat this stain...
#1
i have a dress shirt that looks like i pressed my back against a piece of pizza. i have no idea how this would have happened since i approach pizza from the opposite direction. at this point the shirt has been washed twice in cold water, once after being treated with Shout. The shirt is 100% Cotton and claims it needs to be washed in cold water although i'm questioning that.

what stain fighting regimen would you suggest?

Soak in a product like Oxyclean for as long as it says it is safe to soak, probably at least an hour. If it still isn't out, I would soak in a sink full of cold water after rubbing detergent into the stain, for maybe overnight. A tomato/red stain can be tough to get out. Good luck.

From eHow...

For juices, wines, coffee, tomato-based sauces and soft drinks, blot the stain with cold water. Then, sprinkle with the stain with salt so it can absorb the liquid. After a moment or two, wipe clean with club soda and pretreat for a wash cycle.

Goop works well. Apply a lot, scrub it in and let it soak for 15-30 minutes and then wash. Check after washing but before drying - if the stain is still there repeat. I think Walmart sells Goop for about $1.50

"Things Required

* Talcum Powder (or Cornstarch)
* Liquid Detergent (or Dish Detergent)

Directions

* To begin with, take the affected garment/ fabric and spread it on a flat surface with the oil based stain facing upside.
* Now, sprinkle good amount of talcum powder or cornstarch over the stain.
* Allow the powder to rest there for some hours or even overnight.
* After the due time, brush off the excess powder.
* In case you find oily powder residue on the fabric, rub it off and pour the powder once again and let the fabric to rest.
* Once you’ve finished this, wash or dry clean your fabric as you always do.
* After washing, examine the spot sooner than placing the garment in the dryer.
* In case the oil spot is still present, you can rub alcohol over it to get your clothes all new again. Remember that alcohol can also lift the color, so it’s better to test it in an inconspicuous spot before using.

Tips

* This method can be used on any and every type of fabric.
* Warm or hot water is always preferable for washing such fabric.

* Ensure you scrape off all powder from the fabric before dry cleaning.

* Dish detergent can be utilized for washing since molecules in such liquids are prepared to trap oil.
* The earlier you deal with an oil stain; the better would be the outcom"

I have used this method before. But I also used heat. In layers, cloth/cornstarch/bandanna then hot iron.
EDIT: Also used dish detergent and a toothbrush to brush stain.

Did you put it in the dryer? If so, it may be too late. The heat may have set it. Good luck.

Try Simple Green or Dawn dishwashing liquid. The best would be Grease Relief, but I haven't seen it in stores in years. Stuff was unbelievable. It was one of the few products that would get out ring around the collar. My neighbor uses Dawn on her husbands shirts and she says it works well.

My absolute favorite clothing stain remover is a product called Tech, sold in hardware stores and some fabric stores. Here it is at Amazon too:

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=tech+stain+remover&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=3178126931&ref=pd_sl_8dz2uennnq_e

At first it seems really pricey. But after seeing how well it worked, I bought a gallon. Also great on carpets.

Usually I wet the stain with it (don't pour too liberally...just enough to wet it), rub the stain, let it set about 15-20 minutes, then wash. Check your results BEFORE putting the garment in the dryer, and do it again if necessary. Good luck!
