Not surprisingly Melissa Catherine Smith-Means of Alabama (oh...Alabama) was arrested a few months ago for this incident in a Verizon store... With video.  Mother of the year?

Does that mean we should treat them like luggage? actually, context does matter. it struck me as i watched the vid that the mom does not look angry. it's kind of nonchalant. i also can't tell how the leash is attached; most of those use a harness. the child is not struggling or protesting in any way. the surface of the store was carpeted. this could very well have been a game they play at home as she suggested. many kids do like to be pulled around playfully. i've done it with my son though usually by his legs, slowly, on our wood floors. this woman shows poor judgement to do it in public where others might misunderstand if that is the case. and i'm not saying that is the case; i'm just suggesting more context is necessary to know.

I think it does. As does looking before you shoot. After actually watching the video, I don't see a crime. I see a lapse in judgement. More info is indeed necessary. Is the kid throwing a tantrum? Is he complaining or protesting? Is he awake? Is Mom punishing him? Is she angry? From the video, she could easily be telling the truth. But doing something harmless that's bound be be misinterpreted by the self-righteous knee-jerkers is not a smart move. Nobody approached her about her perceived misconduct. So there was concern, just not *that* much concern? I don't care for Gizmodo in general, but the comments on the video are amusing.

I love it when parents tell their children to 'act your age'. Does it not occur to them that the child is acting his/her age?
