My Dad has a TiBook running Mac OS 10.3.9. He recently purchased a new printer (Canon Pixma MP620) which has a wired connection to his LAN. At first, the software install and set-up seemed to go without any problems. Printing with the new printer works great. We just discovered that NTRConnect, which I use to help with long distance troubleshooting, will no longer work. NTR Connect worked fine before this printer driver software install. Now, the application will start to open (bouncing icon on dock) and then it will "unexpectantly quit". Things I have tried to fix this problem include: RP, running the maintenance scripts (Onyx), logging in from a spare user account, trashing all NTRConnect files and reinstalling from a fresh download. I still have the unexpectantly quit occur as NTRConnect starts up. I did notice that there is now a Canon IJ Network Scan Utility in the start up items where NTRConnect had also been located.
Two questions: Is there any way to fix this problem so we can once again use NTRConnect? If not, is there another application that will work with my Dad's TiBook (OS 10.3.9) that will enable me to "see his desktop" when I am assisting with troubleshooting?
Thanks for your help!

Ken SP- thanks for your post! If we are not able to solve the NTRConnect issue I will definitely check that out. Thanks for the link!

Try logmein.com
It's a great service...I still cannot believe that its free. I'd pay a few dollars each year for the service...

wowzer- thanks for your post! Last time I checked logmein only worked with 10.4 and above. I will check into logmein again. If it would work with 10.3.9 that would be great! Thanks for your help!

Ken Sp-Skype appears to be a possibility. I have installed it on my Dad's TiBook and the application appears to be running fine. I will have to see if it works when I try to connect with him from home (700 miles from Dad). I do see that screen sharing is an option, if it works that should help a lot! wowzer- I did look into logmein. According to their web site it is recommended for 10.4.6 and later, but they are trying to build in compatibility for earlier versions of Mac OS X. I will keep me on it! I do appreciate the help. I will continue to monitor this thread for any other suggestions as well. Sleep calls....

I don't know anything about NTRConnect, but is it possible that they're using the same network ports for something (and thus the conflict, that NTRConnect cannot get access to the ports because the printer software is using them?)
Just my thought.

better than LogMeIn for my mom and I. Much more stable and faster.
But I don't know if it'll support Panther.

gabester, Fritz- thanks for your posts. gabster, what you are suggesting makes sense. That certainly would account for the NTR application starting up and then immediately shutting down . Fritz, I did check into teamviewer and, after some digging I did find that teamviewer is for Mac OS 10.4 and later. It certainly looks like a good possibility if/when we can upgrade my Dad to OS 10.4. Ken Sp, the install of Skype went fine and after the install I successfully completed a Skype "test call". I will not be back home for 3 to 4 days to see if I can connect and he can share his screen. I will start a new thread then. I do sincerely appreciate all of the help and insights! Thanks!
