I remember a few years back calculating that the world's population could fit in a cube 3/4 mile on each side.

I am sure someone has a more accurate measurement that applies to today or that future population.

You can do the math.

Average Height, Width, Depth to get volume. You can average the average heights, with respect to average age distribution as well. Some people are tiny. (Babies) Others are large. (Oprah).

So, if the Borg were to ever invade, the ship would not have to be that big to plug everyone in. Smile

I for one believe that if we as a species can with determination:

feed
house
clothe
educate
entertain
provide clean water and waste treatment
provide preventative health care

For every human being on this planet.

It's one of the things that completely disgusts me; the information age and the tremendous efficiencies it represents are being willfully hobbled by the old guard of entrenched wealth. Copyright and DRM are one example of this. Then consider the IP of drug companies and how that harms sick people in developing nations who cannot afford access to drugs.

A friend was sitting next to me the other day enjoying the good life at the pool in the sun, he says, "Boy, it's a rough life." Yes, he was being sarcastic but it just landed on me like the weight of the world that there are probably 5 and a half BILLION human beings on this planet right now who are quietly suffering through their lives of poverty and privation.

Until everyday people wake up to the larger world around them, it's just a dream... but I like to think it's an idea whose time is coming.

I guess it depends on what country you're talking about.

Two or three years ago, the population of Japan actually fell in one year.

Actually, we are so lucky. Our total fertility rate is just at the rate for no growth in the population. Many countries have fertility rates far below ours which is an interesting demographic problem for them. How do you finance social services, health care, and retirement plans with a rapidly aging population that has a rapidly shrinking pool of working people?
