Remember life before eBay?

was going through some old email stuff, and realized/remembered when "ebay" was short for "East Bay Area", as in the Oakland/Berkeley/Fremont environs... I guess, some things just change w/ times...

I remember buying and selling computer stuff on AOL's bulletin boards. Another example of how dumb AOL was--they could have owned the auction/used stuff marketspace, but had no clue.

Before ebay I had to buy Record Collector Magazine out of the UK as well as Goldmine to get my record/cd collecting fix.

And I had to go to every used bookstore in every town I visited. Although bookfinder and abebooks are more responsible than eBay for that transformation.

I also remember CB chat on Compuserve.

Heck, I remember chatting on an actual CB. The 'sales' activity going on in the vicinity of truck stops was always of a sexual nature.

I remember that, too. I think it was the first time I ever heard about Priority Mail. If I recall correctly, it was like, $3.00 to send something that way anywhere in the country.
