Need to replace the factory 120gb.
Looking at a 7200 320gb from OWC. Anyone have a recommendation on brand. Looks like I can chose between Hitachi, WD or Seagate.
Thanks

I would just spend the money and go to the 500GB drive. They don't cost that much more and seem to be the sweet spot for the money. In that bracket the WD Scorpio Blue is the one to get.

I got the WD Scorpio 640GB and it's fantastic. Spindle speed is slower but the platters are a lot more dense so access times are great. I considered the 320GB, but in the end decided that i would rather not have to think about space for a while, or need to carry an external. Kudos to OWC for fabulous DIY videos!

If you're going with the 320gb 7200rpm drive, the WD Black is the one to get. The WD Blue is the 5400rpm version.

I just upgraded my Unibody to a 7200 and it is noticeably faster.
A clean way to do the upgrade is to install 10.6 on the new drive and then migrate the info to it.
Cracking open a non-unibody 15"MBP is a little tough the first time. Getting the front edge apart can be nerve wracking.

I have the WD 320GB 7200rpm Black and it's great. It was like getting a new computer which is useful as my Blackbook is now pushing 4 years old.
For those of you who still have PowerBooks, the WD 320GB Blue PATA is also a great upgrade. It's made my 1.67 15"HD G4 like a new machine as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just got a 12" PB with an 80 GB drive which might be a candidate (if I can get psyched up to do the take-apart - it's basically an iBook with an aluminum shell).
