Re: Getting Comcast rate down-- any recent success? - heap1 - 08-14-2012 Comcast just raised my rate by $20.00 after my 1 year promotion was up. I was able to get that lowered to $3.00 a month by acting like I was going to cancel my service instead of going through customer service. It seems that the customer retention agents have more flexibility to offer you promotions. I have a package with phone, internet, and a DVR. Although they weren't willing to adjust my monthly rate back to the promotion rate they are giving me the DVR free for a year which almost cancels out the monthly rate increase. I'd be happy with only a $3 increase. I didn't select the "cancel service" phone option because I thought it might be automated. Will make my way over to the retention department next time I call. Re: Getting Comcast rate down-- any recent success? - wurm - 08-14-2012 As I mentioned in a previous thread, we just had FiOS installed this past Saturday. So on Sunday I called Comcast/Xfinity to cancel my service. When they said "May I ask why?" I told them I just had FiOS instaled and I don't need both. All of a sudden they wished they "were given the opportunity to try to keep" us. Too little, too late. Just once, I'd like to see a company (any service type company) call - before someone considers canceling - and say something to the effect of "because we're grateful to have you as a customer, we're taking $XX off your bill for the next year". Yeah, yeah, I know it's never going to happen. And when FiOS decides to jack up their price, maybe I'll give Comcast a chance to get me back. All these years, Comcast had us by the short and curlies if we wanted broadband internet. It's nice to have the option for once. (I'm assuming we're talking about analog DSL service, not U-Verse which would require a completely different setup.) They installed FiOS across the street back in 2007-2008, but then they stopped. They never installed FiOS over here, and it seems like that is never gonna happen now. I read the Verizon stopped FiOS expansion, in particular after Comcast and Time Warner sold them some wireless spectrum. Yes, 3Mbps. When I called to ask WTF was up with that, they told me that it was a poorly phrased notice that was only supposed to go out to their $50/month basic Internet subscribers. (BASIC Internet at $50/month?!!) And then they tried to sell me on a triple-play package. Re: Getting Comcast rate down-- any recent success? - DavidS - 08-14-2012 We also cancelled Comcast about 3 weeks ago after getting AT&T Uverse. I had previously downgraded Comcast to a more basic service when they would not offer me any new deals. I had had too man promotions already, evidently. I did not call to cancel or give them a chance to give me something better. I just went to the local Comcast facility and dropped off their equipment (yes, I got a receipt) and told them to cancel everything. The lady asked where I was moving. I said nowhere, just tired of Comcast and moved to AT&T. She genuinely seemed suprised. Interesting that since we cancelled, we've received 3 phone calls with them trying to win us back. I'll let them give it a shot in a year when our AT&T promo rates are up. However, I'm really liking the Uverse, especially during the Olympics the last 2 weeks.
