Gregg store they sometimes cut deals also on stuff. They did with us when we were looking for a washer. Delivery & haul off too. Fred Re: Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes? - Filliam H. Muffman - 11-20-2015 What about F'lies? Slim pickings in their ad this week with only one LG that is less at HD. Re: Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes? - Robert M - 11-20-2015 jdc, Buy local. Always worthwhile for a big appliance and/or a large TV. Much easier to deal with a problem. Check your local utility to see if there is a rebate if you purchase an energystar qualified model. It may save you a few more bucks. 'course, with Black Friday being next week, it may be worth waiting to see if there are any super deals. Robert Re: Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes? - DavidS - 11-20-2015 If you have a Sears outlet nearby, you might want to check them out. They often have new, scratch and dent models for 50% off the retail price. For a dishwasher, you don't care if the sides are banged up a bit, b/c noone will ever see that. We recently bought a $3500 LG fridge for $1700. I bought a SquareTrade warranty for it, just in case. Re: Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes? - GuyGene - 11-20-2015 Another vote for local on appliances. :aus: Well, we don't have an American flag... Re: Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes? - jdc - 11-20-2015 thanks all. Im really the first person to try always try to go local, worked in my dads "local" brake/wheel tire shop for years -- saw lots of loyalty with customers and then all of the issues with "chains" doing shoddy work. Maybe not the best comparision, but stuck with me. Free shipping for Amazon, free delivery for HD/Lowes. Plan on selling the DW on CL for $50. It works, but needs some TLC,. And its 13 years old, loud and top rack wheel axels are broken and would require a completely new rack. 30 day Free returns online, free shipping back. Assuming manufac warranty takes over after that, even if I bought at HD/lowes. Didnt think about sales tax... looks like none at Amazon but $28 locally. Im trying to decide what the "local" impact really is? HD prob got it from the same place as Amazon, right? Prob came from China on the same boat. Im not visiting the store, so Im not making a worker there "work" for the sale. They are both being delivered, so the delivery guys get paid, be it from one place or the other. Id buy it from a "local" appliance place, but theres only one on the manufac site, and they actually dont sell it, said they could order it, but it would be MSRP, which is $250(!) more than Amazon or HD/Lowes Thanks David, did look at Sears outlet, they have one, but description said "scratch on front". And its 3 hours away. Discount was about $75 off list, and delivery was $75... so... We are looking for a specific brand to "match" our fridge and microwave color, so I have that limitation as well. Re: Appliance purchase -- Amazon vs Home Depot/Lowes? - M A V I C - 11-20-2015 Personally, I won't buy from Lowes again. I bought a dishwasher there a few years ago and they had a deal to get it installed. They had some independent contractor install it. A few months later it was having problems. The MFG sent out a repairman. It was apparently damaged during installation. He asked who installed it. He said technically that voids the warranty and that I would have to go back through Lowes to see if they'll do anything about it. But he said he couldn't rule out that it was damaged in shipping to the store, so he went ahead and repaired it. He said it was a common transport issue that occurs after the dishwasher was removed from its original packaging. Although Amazon is a "local company" for me, and they have their brick & motor store, I'd still want to buy... hmm, I don't know what better service I would get from Lowes or HD than I would get from Amazon :/ I recently had to return another appliance to Lowes and that was painful. It required multiple trips to the store and multiple phone calls.
