If it hadn't gotten stopped by snow, I bet the scenery would have been spectacular.

I have wanted to take the trip from L.A. to Seattle (and many others) but just haven't quite gotten around to it.

Everett, WA to Portland, OR is lovely.

My friend from Eugene just sent me a picture of the snowman she made yesterday - it was a darned good one - plenty of snow :-)

Not too far from my Oregon place. There was about 2.5 feet of snowpack when I left a week ago, probably 4-5 feet now, judging by webcams. Proximity to an Amtrak stop
Is one of the reasons that I bought that place.

Who in the world would take an Amtrak train from Seattle to L.A?

Those of us who enjoy the journey.

I've been to 30 countries, and I've ridden an intercity train in 24 of them.

Vancover BC to Portland is great too. Recommend Amtrak Cascades. 8 hour trip; $50 one way.

Wow, that's quite a story. And it happened at Donner Pass, but this time no passengers found themselves on the menu.

I lived in Eugene in the early seventies and I was amazed that Lane County, which is at least twice the size of Massachusetts, had three snowplows, all in the Three Sisters mountain passes. When it snowed in Eugene, it was a disaster.
