.... I think all coffee shops should give a tiny discount for those who bring their own reusable cup.
:agree:

BUT... health rules require them to give it to you in a disposable container, and you then drop it in your reusable container. Kind of breaks the whole idea.

Gas stations are easier, you just pour it out of the pot into your own nasty grunge cup. (I usually wash mine out in their sink, and they get dishwasher washed every few days.)
I didn't know that, but our gas stations sell reusable cups that come with cheap refills... and I know our Starbucks encourage reusable cups. Maybe it's regional. I try not to use anything disposable at all... metal silverware and porcelain plates at work, etc.

Thanks. There is a distinct possibility that I am wrong.... Won't be the first time, won't be the last time.

SoCal banned the plastic bags a while back and frankly people pretty much transitioned to canvas/reusable bags quick and easy. Yeah we're all a bag o' CA-fruitballs but reusing bags is normal now, you don't even think about it. Disposable plastic or reusable can both be normal, it's just what you're used to.

I have never seen or heard of anyone double cupping a styrofoam coffee cup. You can put boiling liquids in there and at most it's warmish on the outside. Double cupping a paper cup is a common occurrence, but not with styrofoam. Are they being overly dramatic to justify the switch?

This has been my experience as well.

I pay the small price for them filling my own large mug at DD every morning. Maybe the rules are different depending on your local health codes?

I wish there were a DD close to me.

And Dunkin' Donuts as well.

Speaking of plastic bags, when I get provisions at Safeway, I buy one of the paper bags every other trip.

But unless I say 'Paper, please' their default is always plastic.

Every time. No exceptions. But if I ask for paper, I get paper.

I don't know if they're trying to save a tree, but it seems very odd to me.
