The polite answer. I assumed the purpose of the first vote was to give the GOP the breathing room to say ‘what DT did was terrible, but this is not the process to use to address it. ‘ followed by ‘he will be judged by the court of public opinion’.

The lack of $$ as the final straw, however. I’m sure they read the contract and NDA being offered and felt the liability issues alone were far more expensive than any net publicity from defending him.

apparently, he is offering to take over but Trump's advisors are fighting back against letting that occur. Trump also wants to testify, no words on if he'll have ball-bearings

I think the GOP would block it. They actually need Trump out of the limelight, and overt lies on such an historical stage will only keep The Orange Emperor in court the rest of the next 4 years.
