I recommend that you buy a new dishwasher.

Why?

Because your old one broke.

Harbour,

See this thread:

Love the specialized rack for silverware! We use it for silverware, smaller lids, little bitty cups for dispensing medicine for Little M, the dividers of her favorite lunch box food container. You name it.

Height adjustable racks are very handy. Same goes for racks whose tines can be turned down to help the dishwasher accommodate cooking dishes like Corningware.

I'd want a heating element to assist with drying. I prefer dishes as dry as reasonably possible when I open the door after it finishes a cycle.

I use mine for storing mason jars. I run it just before canning to sterilize the jars. A Whirlpool I got on closeout for around $250. Honestly, I would prefer more cabinet space.

There are just two of us and I can hand wash quickly.

The Bosch 800 has a new heating system for drying. Reviews are excellent.

I just bought (this week) a Bosch 800 series. Costco has a special on the one with a handle, HD has a sale on the one with the recessed handle/pocket. Best Buy has a clearance on last year’s model with handle. I bought an open box one for $700.

How's the drying?

I have a Bosch that came with my home that I’m looking forward to replacing with a nicer Bosch. Nothing wrong with it, just want the nicer model.

(yet another vote for Bosch)

So far I have been quite happy with the Whirlpool. It does an excellent job of washing and drying and I like the Sensor Wash and Quick Wash cycles.

It is relatively quiet and usually gets run at night so sound isn't an issue as all the bedrooms are upstairs and the kitchen is down.

I have no trouble with hand washing but enjoy the convenience of the dishwasher.

Thanks for all of your input so far...

Looks like the current version of this machine is On Sale at Coscto for $649.

I know everyone here seems to love Bosch, but I'm very happy with my KitchenAid. Part of it is how you load things in the KitchenAid, part of it is that the parts are shared between Whirlpool and KitchenAid, such that finding replacement parts wouldn't be a problem (and I can use all the old accessories I had from my Whirlpool in the KitchenAid). Also, I know Bosch has gotten better on this point, but I really wanted something that had a heating element at the bottom for drying.

If anyone's curious, the KitchenAid I ended up with is this one, very highly rated:

Edit: in re-reading my post, I forgot to mention one VERY important deciding factor for me personally. I needed something that would definitely have completely removable racks, so that I could use the dishwasher to fit extremely large items. Really easy to remove the racks in the KitchenAid.

Ouch. Hopefully the strings represent the Kitchenaid and the trumpets and trombones represent the Bosch.
