As swamp pointed out, she's a Governor. They tend to be a bit more pragmatic than the ideologues populating the senate and the fringe wackos populating the House. Her position on immigration is also quite pragmatic, and I for one welcome it. It's time we just stopped the whole hullabaloo and acknowledged that we've got a lot of defacto citizens who work hard and are trying to raise families and merge into the populace.
Sure, there are criminals among them, but just being here should not be a crime.

well, this is debatable on the "merge" It seems in my community at least they are still speaking their own language and doing their own thing...the merging is jobs. Since the economy has changed they are not coming acoss so readily and so that tells the tale they are interested in getting out of the USA what they can and not that they like America and want to be a LEGAL part of it.

Thanks, but actually my position on illegal immigrants has always been more laissez faire than otherwise. My mother's side all immigrated from the Emerald Isle, and my wife's side all immigrated as DP's after WWII from the smoking remains of Bosnia. In fact, my FIL never attained US citizenship, and having helped him through the incredible hassle of green card renewal shortly before his death, I can completely empathize with the complexity and crap required to follow the law.

My objection to assimilation of illegal aliens is that it rewards bad behavior. There are too many people who do it the right way so a blanket acceptance of illegals is not fair to them.
If ACORN can find 30 million unregistered voters, they should be able to find 20 million illegal aliens so they can be sent home.
