I just got a 12" PB with an 80 GB drive which might be a candidate (if I can get psyched up to do the take-apart - it's basically an iBook with an aluminum shell).

The 1.33 was my first 'Book, and I've been telling myself that I'm going to do the same as you, Winston.

I did a 14" iBook G4 HD replacement and that wasn't too much fun. Educational, though. It now has the video chip problem so I need to do that again and stick the little rubber shim in to recover it. it's been in that state for 8 months now…

I replaced the HD in a 12" PBG4 and while it was similar to the iBook, it was a bit easier. Maybe familiarity helped.

The HD replacement in the 15" PBG4 1.67 was even easier though still quite a number of pieces have to come out to get to the HD. Not easy, any of these. My Pismos couldn't have been easier in comparison.

All this is not too unfamiliar as opening my first Powerbook, a 5300cs, took the same amount of time as the 14" iBook. In that one I was replacing the 8-bit video out with a better 16-bit video out board. The iBook by comparison is pretty easy to get into, just time consuming. The 5300 was difficult to get into, regardless of time.

Or go for an SSD, depending on your total storage needs. They can be wicked fast.

I doubt any of those have a PATA interface, and even if one did it'd probably be overkill on a 6-9 year old Mac.

Yeah, go the 500 Gb.

I've got a Seagate 7200 RPM.

Had it in the MacBook then swapped it to the MacBook Pro.
