We had two cable companies competing. One bought out the other to take care of any possible competition.

Has anyone tried calling up as a new customer, getting promotion rates, then canceling as the old customer? You would have to do it by account number.

Not exactly. I had about 24 mbps from Comcast. When I decreased their service it was only for CATV. I left the internet alone. With AT&T, we are at the 12 mbps tier. Yes, it's 1/2 speed, but for our purposes, not that big a change. The couple large files I've downloaded, have been done overnight.

So, this thread has me checking Comcast and ATT Uverse again. We are currently ATT w/ UP TO 12mbps and while is it OK for streaming netflix, it can get very, very slow just surfing the web during the daytime hours.
The Comcast pkg I was looking at is Performance Internet and it is also UP TO 12 mbps. So, these two plans are equivalent, right??? What do they really mean by "up to" 12 mbps???

That means that if you are only getting 5 mbps, you can't complain to them b/c they are advertising "up to" but not guaranteeing 12 mbps. It protects them from when they offer shoddy service.

If your problem is during the daytime then it's very likely to not have anything to do with YOUR service.
