It's 4° here this morning, which is far better than the -14° they had forecast. Luckily a secondary wave formed in our storm and brought in some cloud cover and snow showers.

Anywhere along the West side of the first batch of hills along the coastal range from Victoria BC down to San Francisco, and the California Central Valley. I remember one January where the temperature in my neighborhood (Sacramento mid-town at that time) stayed below 39 F with fog for a week straight. I have heard of fog-ice storms along the Columbia river upstream from Portland. In the Winter the North Pacific Ocean gyre can keep the ocean temperature warmer than the air temperature along the coast.
The June Gloom can happen almost any time of the year along the coast from San Francisco to San Diego. It rarely happens when temperatures are that cold in California. It usually does not stay below freezing during the day unless there is some sort of weather system with strong winds, which tends to prevent the formation of fog in the marine layer.

Was 54 in here when I woke up. Stupidly I hit the thermostat until it clicked, rather than bumping it up to something reasonable (63-64 deg?) and didn't realize until after an hour or so that I'd only bumped it up to 55....

It was 78 here in central NC this past Friday, today it's hovered around 35 all day.
