The June Gloom can happen almost any time of the year along the coast from San Francisco to San Diego. It rarely happens when temperatures are that cold in California. It usually does not stay below freezing during the day unless there is some sort of weather system with strong winds, which tends to prevent the formation of fog in the marine layer.
