We have a few really good ones... one is unpretentious and inexpensive. It’s also delicious and my favorite. In CT not too far away, there’s a very pretentious and a moderately pretentious one. The donuts are good, if you can get them. In Providence it’s the same deal. I haven’t bothered with theirs for the most part. I file that under "don’t do me a favor ". We are supposed to go to a great sounding place in Boston next week when we’re there anyway.

We had a KK for a couple of years - it was incredible when the donuts were hot (only), and super popular, then gone. I don’t bother with DD.

Yes, this one is very popular in Gainesville, FL, and are pretty much the only doughnuts I eat:

They have a shop and also a couple of food truck locations.

There is also a shop called Daylight Donuts that I don't think is a chain.

Yeah, there's a local one near me that literally put a Dunkin' Donuts that went up right next to it out of business. Pretty cool.

Best donuts in this town are homemade by my 82 year old Dad. His recipe is from the McCalls 1963 cookbook.

There is a good donut shop, but donuts is it as far bakeries go. My mom grew up in a family owned German bakery and I learned that the simple things are best - a well made cake donut or frycake as he calls them) is perfection. If I want fancy pastry, I'll get an Apple Fritter. No one around y area can make a crusty loaf of bread to save themselves.

I collect Americana cookbooks, I'll have to look out for that one (and check, perhaps I already own it).

Acacia bakery in San Pedro, CA at 235 S. Pacific Ave

We also have sandwich shops like Busy Bee

There's also Granny's Donuts on Western and Summerland.

I keep forgetting we're Pedro neighbors. When this whole COVID thing is behind us, we should get together for a beer.

We have an amazing new donut emporium called Stan's, but Dunkin is well entrenched here in the Chicago area. There are a handful of local shops, but they are slowly fading away.

They are great, but at $20/doz for basics or $30/doz for fancy donuts - it is not an regular purchase.

THE original Stans was in Los Angeles. Westwood by UCLA. It just closed unfortunately after 57 years.
