This statement is just not supported by the data.
Further, places that INCREASED funding via Police unions resulted in INCREASED crime.
Since 2021, gun access was greatly increased in Texas. Guess what's happened? More gun violence in that state.

The approach is a departure from the Summer of 2020. That's when Portland City Council voted to approve cutting $15 million from the police bureau, eliminating 84 sworn staff positions. The cuts came amid racial justice protests calling to defund the police.
As updated in February 2022, the NYPD budget, including both the department's operating and central expenses for fringe benefits, pensions, and debt service, is $10.9 billion in fiscal year 2022, a $13 million decrease from the November 2021 financial plan.
