Fabulous, famous, and many, if not most, would say iconic, until Stan decided it was time to retire after 55 years (mostly due to Covid). Thankfully, the UCLA/Westwood donut void was promptly taken over by Primo's, an even older donut entrepreneur, whose long-time donut home has been just a few miles down the road from the UCLA campus (and perhaps not-so-coincidentally, walking distance from UCLA Married Student Housing). Around L.A. we have quite a few excellent M&P donut options. I'm not a big donut person, though spousal unit is a true donut aficionado; but I was always a fan of our Stan's (R.I.P. 2020). OTOH, the other human was/is big on Primo's. She also likes Randy's, Bob's, DK's, Sunshine's among other M&P donutteries. Most road trips can be counted on to include at least one tasting at the highest rated local M&P donut shop. According to Mrs. Buzz, if/when a M&P donut shop delivers a stellar incarnation of any one of her faves, it's on her list; even if their other offerings do not reach the same taste-bud-tingling heights. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() == Re: Do folks have local owned doughnut shops nearby? - Ombligo - 02-10-2021 Grandparents sold a dozen for less than a quarter. ![]() Re: Do folks have local owned doughnut shops nearby? - Cary - 02-11-2021 As a New Yorker who lived in LA for eight years, and have traveled extensively for business, I have to say that Buzz is spot on. There are a ton of great M&P donut shops in LA. By far the greatest volume of donut shops in any city I've spent time in. Re: Do folks have local owned doughnut shops nearby? - cbelt3 - 02-11-2021 One in the next town over has been there for 50 years. Cash only business. The founder passed away last year. Still going strong. In my town ? Dunkin’ has the hegemony. Re: Do folks have local owned doughnut shops nearby? - Filliam H. Muffman - 02-11-2021 I'm not the most reliable person to ask about gourmet flavors since my half of my taste buds died off in my late 30's. The local Fred Meyer has good donuts, even the 'day old' dozen random clearance boxes that get put out at 7 pm are still decent. The top rated local shops are too far to walk but close enough that the car doesn't get warmed up for a single stop trip. |
