If this is based on proximity, how does this qualify her over any other Alaska resident?

Biden is inarticulate and doesn't think before speaking about anything, despite his "high" class education.

you nailed it. and this religious base is particularly adept at marshalling their forces to vote accordingly on election day. my hope is that those of us who feel otherwise and can vote, will.

deco, I really don't think that's true. While I am no great fan of Biden myself, and wasn't thrilled with him as Obama's VP pick, I think Palin is quite literally out of Biden's league. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc1i6InhHtE
And as for the Harvard education, Biden is hardly the only one to be well-educated. Did you actually read the article I linked to? Palin is the LEAST well-educated, by far, of ANY recent candidate in Presidential/Vice-Presidential history, Democrat OR Republican. While education isn't a guarantee of intelligent decisionmaking, it's hard to imagine that you can have it WITHOUT a solid education.

A stupidity contest between these two candidates would make more sense than a fruitless effort to compare their intelligence. They've got the combined intelligence of maybe one person, but the stupidity of countless multitudes. Hey, they should go into politics!

In all fairness, his blunder seems pretty boneheaded, considering he was a history major in college. However, he earned a law degree and passed the bar - not sure how many tries he had at it. My son's a lawyer and I can tell you this - they don't hand out JD's easily, it comes with much effort. Passing the bar is also not a cakewalk. Here's Wiki's run down on his educational background:
In 1961, Biden graduated from Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware[3 and, in 1965, from the University of Delaware in Newark,[5] where he double-majored in history and political science.[3] He went on to receive his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968, and was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1969.

In 6 years Palin attended at least 5 colleges and transfered multiple times. None of the colleges she attended had entrance requirements. It is unclear why she transfered so many times.
Her grades have not been publicly reported.
Palin attended Hawaii Pacific College in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1982 for a semester, where she majored in Business Administration, and transferred in 1983 to North Idaho College for the 1983-1984 school year. After transferring again in 1984, Palin received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987, where she also minored in political science.
Actually she attended 6 colleges prior to graduating with a degree in journalism.

The mere thought of McCain winning this election (which is bad enough) and then freaking *croaking* on us, leaving the clueless Sarah Palin behind to stand as POTUS, makes my blood run cold.
Lord knows I have forced myself to watch her gives speeches and do interviews, even though she grates on my nerves something awful, hoping for her to say something that made me think she was intelligent enough to do the job, but she continually disappoints. She does provide lots of over-dinner conversation fodder though.
If there are some interviews out there in internet-land, where she sounds half way intelligent, please point me to them.
