MacBook 5,1 was made of Aluminum? - space-time - 03-28-2012 Browsing through the OWC install videos I just noticed that MacBook 5,1 seems to be made of Aluminum (unibody). I know the earlier MacBook were made of polycarbonate and later models, unibody, also of polycarbonate material, but I was not aware that there was a model (5,1), in fact 2 revisions of basic MacBook (not PRO) made of unibody Aluminum. Interesting. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/stats/macbook-core-2-duo-2.4-aluminum-13-late-2008-unibody-specs.html Re: MacBook 5,1 was made of Aluminum? - Black - 03-28-2012 space-time wrote: As I recall people made a huge stink out of the lack of Firewire port, and these ended up significantly reduced at Microcenter not long after introduction. My niece ended up with one of these. Re: MacBook 5,1 was made of Aluminum? - space-time - 03-28-2012 so this was the first model with no FW? I don't think FW never returned on MacBooks, did it? This model was a bit messy (and ultimately transitional) in terms of Apple's ongoing effort to differentiate the product lines-- I think they left the FW port off mainly so that it wouldn't compete with the MBP line. I think not long after it debuted it was decided that there would only be MBAs and MBPs down the road. Re: MacBook 5,1 was made of Aluminum? - Drew - 03-28-2012 I'm on one now and have been using it since they first came out. Has served me well, though am looking to upgrade to an Air-like MBP when they come out (soon?). |
