MacBook 5,1 was made of Aluminum?

Browsing through the OWC install videos I just noticed that MacBook 5,1 seems to be made of Aluminum (unibody). I know the earlier MacBook were made of polycarbonate and later models, unibody, also of polycarbonate material, but I was not aware that there was a model (5,1), in fact 2 revisions of basic MacBook (not PRO) made of unibody Aluminum. Interesting.

As I recall people made a huge stink out of the lack of Firewire port, and these ended up significantly reduced at Microcenter not long after introduction. My niece ended up with one of these.

so this was the first model with no FW? I don't think FW never returned on MacBooks, did it?

Yes, and no more Firewire on the basic 'books. This model was a bit messy (and ultimately transitional) in terms of Apple's ongoing effort to differentiate the product lines-- I think they left the FW port off mainly so that it wouldn't compete with the MBP line. I think not long after it debuted it was decided that there would only be MBAs and MBPs down the road.

I'm on one now and have been using it since they first came out. Has served me well, though am looking to upgrade to an Air-like MBP when they come out (soon?).
