Charles Schwab now has a entry code just like Amazon started - samintx - 03-15-2018

You can choose several options...email, what phone, etc. Don't know if it lasts all day because I got a code this a.m. and signed out. I just got into my account and didn't have to get a new code.

Guess good protection against hackers but a pain also.

Codes last 30 min, usually. You can request an app that will generate a code you append to your password, if you prefer a complicated but non-interactive option.

Best get used to it. It will be standard practice soon.

Multi factor authentication is becoming a requirement for banking and credit card companies. However.... when someone builds a better mousetrap, evolution will build a better mouse...

After my entry the codes seem to get me in all day. BAC had codes and another bank but they have stopped using.

Sam, you travel a good bit. Have you tried Schwab's debit card that is supposed to have free ATM usage around the world?

I used it on a South East Asia trip. No fees and No Foreign Transaction fee. Just make sure you choose US Dollars if you are given a choice of how you want the transaction to resolve. ATM charge was charged, then reversed without my intervention.

About to give it a serious shakedown in Chile and Argentina.

That way the conversion is made by Schwab at the banker's rate. The ATM could be giving an unfavorable exchange rate.
