Short version of the reason to oppose critical race theory:
There's no need to change anything in American society to combat racism because there is no such thing as systemic racism and everything is just hunky dory. It's just a few bad apples who are inherently racist. Never mind them.

I think a good non eye glazing summary is simply that the success of the USA was greatly dependent on slavery (and later other limitations of freedom of minorities) and that much of this system is actually still in place today and needs to be addressed.
