What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - ka jowct - 10-07-2021 My coding skills are rusty, but I can refresh them as I go. I'd like to find an app that allows easy access to code view as well as a reasonable preview within the application. I would assume they all let you quickly preview in various browsers. The last time I did much web stuff, I used GoLive to manage the site and its components, with the initial layouts and style sheets worked out in TextWrangler, previewed in browsers, and then brought into GoLive. When I update our group's site in GoLive (in a VM), I do most of the futzing with content in code view, but I like having some things available via a click on a tool. Image insertion, etc. are dead easy in GoLive. I am considering trying to rebuild our site a bit to make it work better on more devices. There are some basic changes that would not be difficult to make, and that would at least make the site easier to use on tablets, without going for all-out responsive. I am NOT interested in something that is completely drag-and-drop, and won't let you get at the source code within the application. Nor will I consider Dreamweaver (subscription). Right now, I'm experimenting a little with Blue Griffon and Tumult Whisk. Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - sekker - 10-07-2021 Life is short. I no longer code in HTML. Depending on what you need, there are tools like: wordpress Squarespace I stand by the view that iWeb was an outstanding product that Apple should never have abandoned. Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - ka jowct - 10-07-2021 Not interested in either of those and I never used iWeb. Please, folks, don't suggest things that I specifically indicated I don't want? Please? I've been coding html for years and years and years and I am so sick of it now. Back them WSIWYG just wouldn't cut it. Nowadays it does and more so. I still use Dreamweaver b/c I have no choice, but I'm hoping to get around that very soon. But if you're dead set on editing code, you could always look at Nova. Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - sekker - 10-07-2021 You can get down to pretty basic code-level at wordpress. https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/adding-html-wordpress/ Squarespace is also not obligately drag-and-drop. I think it's worth your time to explore what these website tools can do than assume they are only for simpletons just because someone without coding can make a site using those tools. Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - mattkime - 10-07-2021 What kind of site? What kind of content? Is it static content? Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - anonymouse1 - 10-07-2021 I used to use FLUX, but I'm not sure it's still available. Just needs tweaking, like getting the 3-column content reworked into two and stuff like that. I should probably just stick with what I know for now, and not go crazy moving to a different app or set of apps. I do like the look of Tumult Whisk, and will play with that a bit more. Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - Filliam H. Muffman - 10-07-2021 Wordpress can be dangerous if both you and the host do not stay up to date on malware. Always keep a current backup so you can nuke from orbit. Would it be easier to make a dedicated mobile/tablet version? Edit: brain fade Re: What, if anything, do we like for building websites these days? - NewtonMP2100 - 10-07-2021 ....I still use.....imagination...... |
