He tried to bring the church into the 21st century, I expect the next pope will roll it back some. Re: Pope Francis R.I.P. @ 88 y.o. - rgG - 04-21-2025 Oh no. I thought he was on the mend. Such sad news. Re: Pope Francis R.I.P. @ 88 y.o. - Michael - 04-21-2025 The next pope will be interesting since Francis appointed about 80% of cardinal electors. Presumably they are more inclined to embrace the Francis model. A new pope needs a 2/3 vote of the electors. But, the church, writ large, seems to have become a bit more conservative in recent years; I imagine that's in response to the more liberal turn with Francis. It will be interesting to see if the electors reflect the more left perspective of Francis or turn a bit to the right to try to keep the pews more full. I think its more that conservative Catholicism has become a source of right wing ideas. Re: Pope Francis R.I.P. @ 88 y.o. - jonny - 04-21-2025 A huge loss. Re: Pope Francis R.I.P. @ 88 y.o. - Rick-o - 04-21-2025 R.I.P. I'm not much of a fan of the Catholic faith, (or any other religion, TBH), but I felt Pope Francis was a stand up guy who stood for what is right in this world.
