I was expecting this at any time but still a shock.

He tried to bring the church into the 21st century, I expect the next pope will roll it back some.

The next pope will be interesting since Francis appointed about 80% of cardinal electors. Presumably they are more inclined to embrace the Francis model. A new pope needs a 2/3 vote of the electors. But, the church, writ large, seems to have become a bit more conservative in recent years; I imagine that's in response to the more liberal turn with Francis. It will be interesting to see if the electors reflect the more left perspective of Francis or turn a bit to the right to try to keep the pews more full.

R.I.P.

I'm not much of a fan of the Catholic faith, (or any other religion, TBH), but I felt Pope Francis was a stand up guy who stood for what is right in this world.
