Sorry, just wanted to get that out of the way. But global warming issues aside, wouldn't it be a good idea to reduce the consumption of oil? Sorry, just wanted to get that out of the way. But global warming issues aside, wouldn't it be a good idea to reduce the consumption of oil? I've taken to frying with butter, it's tastier and the Saudis don't get a dime. Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - incognegro - 06-06-2008 Glenn Beck likes to claim how global warming is a sham. How come the forecast for the next few days in PA is almost 100, in early June? Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - OWC Jamie - 06-06-2008 Hot town, summer in the city Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty Been down, isn't it a pity Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city All around, people looking half dead Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head But at night it's a different world Go out and find a girl Come-on come-on and dance all night Despite the heat it'll be alright And babe, don't you know it's a pity That the days can't be like the nights In the summer, in the city In the summer, in the city Cool town, evening in the city Dressing so fine and looking so pretty Cool cat, looking for a kitty Gonna look in every corner of the city Till I'm wheezing like a bus stop Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop But at night it's a different world Go out and find a girl Come-on come-on and dance all night Despite the heat it'll be alright And babe, don't you know it's a pity That the days can't be like the nights In the summer, in the city In the summer, in the city Hot town, summer in the city Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty Been down, isn't it a pity Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city All around, people looking half dead Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head But at night it's a different world Go out and find a girl Come-on come-on and dance all night Despite the heat it'll be alright And babe, don't you know it's a pity That the days can't be like the nights In the summer, in the city In the summer, in the city Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - cbelt3 - 06-06-2008 Fear mongering scam designed to enrich traders. If you can't get in on a hot commodity market, make your own ! This "carbon trading" idea is incredibly disgusting. It's the global equivalent of pimping- traders pass money around (keeping a massive percentage for themselves, of course) in exchange for the C02 sweat of their ho's. Except in this case there is no goods or service being handled. It's BEYOND smoke and mirrors. Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - mattkime - 06-06-2008 >>This "carbon trading" idea is incredibly disgusting. I guess from a Republican point of view, anything that acknowledges global warming is "incredibly disgusting". Otherwise the idea plays into all the republican ideals of using a free market to solve problems. Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - shadow - 06-06-2008 [quote incognegro]Glenn Beck likes to claim how global warming is a sham. The only thing we can say with 100% certainty about the climate is that it is always changing. How global warming is being presented to the general public (as an absolute truth, like "1 + 1 = 2") is a sham. [quote incognegro]How come the forecast for the next few days in PA is almost 100, in early June? You mean just like it was in 1899, 1914, 1925, 1933, 1959, 1984, and 1999? Yep.... must be global warming. Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - cbelt3 - 06-06-2008 makk, and yet this 'solution' to a problem is wildly theoretical. You might as well sell 'tidal futures' and then use them to hold back the tides. It's an international Ponzi scheme designed to make us 'feel good about doing something' without actually taking the truly hard actions to reduce CO2 emissions and fossil fuel consumption. And the scheme's collapse will come in in the form of civilization's downfall during the lives of our children's children. Take the $45 trillion and spend it on Fusion research, solar power research, and your problems will be SOLVED for now and the future. Enrich scientists and engineers, not a bunch of carbon day-traders. Enrich people who can actually DO SOMETHING instead of people who neither toil nor spin. Again, this approach is disgustingly stupid. Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - Lux Interior - 06-06-2008 [quote cbelt3] Again, this approach is disgustingly stupid. What article did you read? The scenario for deeper cuts would require massive investment in energy technology development and deployment, a wide-ranging campaign to dramatically increase energy efficiency, and a wholesale shift to renewable sources of energy. Seems like they are suggesting reducing the carbon emissions by reducing the need for fossil fueled plants. I even searched on "trade" in the article. Didn't find the word. I don't like the idea of "so-called "carbon capture and storage" technology allowing coal-powered power plants to catch emissions and inject them underground." Just injecting them underground would be as good as just dumping nuclear waste in an empty field. Re: Study: $45 trillion needed to combat warming - cbelt3 - 06-06-2008 I'm griping about the whole 'carbon credit' trade approach. |
