This is 2001 iBook for $400. You can get a refurbished MacBook with 12 month warranty from Apple about 2x that price. With good battery. With warranty. with 10X the storage and probably 20x the computing power if that old G3 iBook.

For a lot of people, their knowledge of computer pricing is based ONLY on what they paid for their last computer. Divide by 2 or 3 or 4 and that should be 'fair'. I often see, "originally paid $XXXX" as if that has ANY relevance at all...

maybe in some small way their experience with depriciation on a new car may make them believe that a 4 year old computer is still worth half of what a new one is. They forget that for most people, a car has a relative useful span for 8-10 years, but computers are maybe half of that, or less.

That picture isn't even of a 2001 iBook. The original white iBooks in 2001 had the translucent case and silver painted palm rests, that picture is of the later iteration "opaque" case.

In June 2002 I paid $799 for an Apple Refurb 2001 iBook from Smalldog with a full 1 year Apple warranty. Still runs, but I think his price has too many digits in it.

Maybe they believe that Macs hold their value better?

i never count on ANY craigslist ad having an accurate photo, or even accurate specs for that matter.
