For a lot of people, their knowledge of computer pricing is based ONLY on what they paid for their last computer. Divide by 2 or 3 or 4 and that should be 'fair'. I often see, "originally paid $XXXX" as if that has ANY relevance at all...

maybe in some small way their experience with depriciation on a new car may make them believe that a 4 year old computer is still worth half of what a new one is. They forget that for most people, a car has a relative useful span for 8-10 years, but computers are maybe half of that, or less.

That picture isn't even of a 2001 iBook. The original white iBooks in 2001 had the translucent case and silver painted palm rests, that picture is of the later iteration "opaque" case.
In June 2002 I paid $799 for an Apple Refurb 2001 iBook from Smalldog with a full 1 year Apple warranty. Still runs, but I think his price has too many digits in it.

i never count on ANY craigslist ad having an accurate photo, or even accurate specs for that matter.
