as a nation, we spend an enormous amount of time and money on a policy that has failed. if other "sins", porn, alcohol, gambling. are legal and taxed, why not re-think this nation's failed drug policy?

Because it's making a lot of people rich.
The alcohol, drug and illegal-drug cartels have too much leverage in Congress and throughout the world for anyone to push through a substantive change in our drug laws.

Since we just ended "war on terror" I don't see why we can't end this war too. What happened to War on Poverty by the way? We must have won it quite a while ago.

The War on Poverty ended when everyone was automatically qualified for a subprime loan regardless.

We are still fighting for the War on Obesity tho'.

The cartels' "leverage" pales in comparison to the attorneys, bail bondsmen, private correctional contractors, and the thousands of companies which manufacture, distribute, or sell equipment to 'Law Enforcement'.
End the stupidity. Make it legal; control and tax it.
6,000+ killed in Mexico along the border during the last eighteen {18} months alone. Acknowledged to be the result of the drug trade.
btw, you're more likely to be shot & killed in Memphis or Baltimore than in Baghdad!

Not to hijack the topic, but is there a nation where narcotic drugs are legal and taxed accordingly? If there is one, how successful, is that nation in its war on drugs?
