They're only pursuing this because it made the national news that they didn't do anything when they found out last week.

They were already looking pretty bad after they failed to send him back to prison (modified his terms of his release to explicitly ask him not to hang out in bars with violent white nationalists) after he was repeatedly caught violating his bond agreement by going out and getting drunk with a bunch of Proud Boys, Klansmen and Nazis while out on bond.

His lawyers are saying they asked to file the address of the "safe house" where he's staying under seal, and the prosecutor didn't agree to that. So a "high-ranking Kenosha police official" advised them to put down the wrong address.
