Now it's not merely impeachment- It's a treason trial

If there aren't new even more explosive revelations about Trump's role in the storming of the Capital building, then I think it's likely that a lot of Republican senators will jump on the "what's the point of an impeachment trial for a person who's not president anymore" and the "Trump's trial isn't fair because it's being overseen by a dude that voted to convict Trump in his earlier impeachment" bandwagon as their excuses for voting against conviction - not ever quite saying whether they think what he did was acceptable or not (IOW, cowards). Add them to the diehard "always a Trumper" Republican senators and there will not be anything close to the number of Senators voting to convict to actually convict him.

Republicans don't want to vote to convict--what they really want is to not even have a trial so they don't have to vote at all--because so many of them were complicit in The Big Lie. If Trump is guilty then so are they (or their colleagues).
