It didn't just chuck them - it severed them, threw them down the garbage disposal and hit the switch.

LOL. I was reading the Lion support forum at Apple to see what people had to say about the implementation of Spaces, now Desktop.

A little splash of color never hurt anything. All the mod really does is change a leather graphic to aluminum. Doesn't change the layout or any functionality.

Agreed, but it's definitely inconsistent. Plus, the little 'torn paper' graphic in iCal?!? That's just plain stupid, or Microsoftean even. I think, more than anything, it just shows that Apple has unfortunately reached that place where it's so big that they've lost the ability to communicate well between their development teams. I think the problem has existed for quite some time actually, but it just keeps getting worse.
