I have done "repair permissions" in the Disk Utility, also just loaded the software update to iTunes version 10.5.2 and the problem still exists. As suggested, I opened some of the problem songs in QuickTime player and they played just fine, so it wouldn't seem to be corrupted song files.
Permissions-repair accomplishes nothing.
Run the Disk Utility and click the "Verify Disk" button.
