Is AIR super drive only for an AIR?

I get cofused when the drives come with 2 USB connectors. Use both or just one?

you need to use both connectors. Two USB inputs mean that the drive doesn't get enough power to operate from one USB connection (on a computer... unpowered hubs don't count.)
And this can become an interesting exercise on some of the Aluminum MacBook Pros that have two USB ports, but one is on the left side, and the other is on the right side.

GGD... I think those MBP's may have a higher powered USB port. Most standards are 500ma, but I believe the newer MBP's push out a higher power, courtesy of the iPad's 1 Amp hunger.

I have go all MACINTOSH this spring so any super drive will be running on AIR, Macbook, MacPros or an iBook. I wouldn't think of disgracing the Super drive by connecting to anything other than a MAC !

Why are you so concerned about using this external drive on a Mac Pro? The Mac Pro comes with an internal SuperDrive and a second internal drive can be added too.
I'm not stupid. I know it has a super drive but I am reading hundreds of DVDs for trbyte drives storage. It seems the better part of valour to not wear out the INTERNAL DRIVE on the MacPro...to me....just a silly thought....so I use an external.

If that's your intended use, I'd stick with the internal in the Mac Pro. I think the full size drive is much better suited to the task and cheap to replace. Or get a full size, tray loading external if you have a MacBook Pro. It's simply going to hold up better than the laptop style slot loading drive in the MBA external superdrive.

I have great Sonys (3) and why use the MacPro internal and wear it out? don't see the reasoning there. But I was using the cheaper Samsungs on other MacPros. They are like junk IMO. I hope the Apple holds us better.

Apple does not make any of the optical drives they use.

in fact, they use crappy OptiArc brand, which is the worst i've used. it failed sooner than any Pioneer, which is what i stick to now.

When you realize you can get a replacement internal for less than $20, I don't see why you'd bother with the external. If you already own it, use it as a backup if/when your internal fails?

i think samintx uses the term MacPro for Macbook Pro.

sam, can you verify you're talking about a Macbook Pro (laptop) and not a Mac Pro (large desktop tower)?

it really helps us help you if we understand what you're talking about. don't take this the wrong way, but the correct terminology is very important in cases like this.
