Romney tells homeless hurricane victim "Go home and call 211."
#21
I watched the entire speech. He discussed topics such as budget cuts, troop deployments, health care, suicide, and of course it included the usual sort of patriotic stuff that all Presidents include. Frankly, I don't think it was the kind of speech that one would go all foot stompy and cheering about even if it was a civilian crowd. Injured soldier? YAY Congress threatening gigantic budget cut? YAY Suicide? YAY

I did wonder about the soldiers behind him, my assumption is that they were told to not react with positive or negative responses due to being on camera, since not a single one of them did.

I would love to hear from someone who was there because I truly believe that the acoustics of the place made the crowd seem quieter than it really was. There was plenty of responses for sure. There's no way that the crowd did not make a lot of noise following the statement about America being the greatest country in the world, so I am thinking an airplane hanger is far different than a stadium or convention hall when it comes to acoustics.

The only reporting on this from a source other than a political blog does not contain the quote "go home and call 211."

The original story is by AP writer Kasie Hunt and it can be found on all the AP outlets such as local newspapers and web sites.

I do realize that does not make it gospel truth, of course.

Maeve Reston covers the Romney campaign for the LA Times and does her own reporting. That's her story that was picked up by the Trib above. So did the lady actually say "“He said that he was going to do the best that he could for us?" I wonder because she seems to be the only reporter saying that. The others are focused on the "call 211" thing.

I think it is fine that both will have gone. It was a tough time for those effected by the hurricane and they can use the support. But those people will want to see which party backs $upport for them and we know that won't be the gut and spend party who were in Tampa.
