Does the new mini Pad make you want to buy?

Again disappointed that gps is only in the cellular version that comes at such a steep markup. Costs +30% of the price of the base model just to add gps and 4G radio? Lame. I had naively thought they might get rid of the fragmentation and have them all have cell/gps capability. Not in a hurry so maybe I'll get one when refurbs come around.

It wasn't meant for me. I prefer the iPad as it was intended... larger. It was created to compete against those folks that for whatever reason thought the competition and their smaller tablet was what they wanted. I've a first gen iPad and when I upgrade, it'll be for the full size.

Nope. I do intend to get an iPhone, though. Just to find out what all the fuss is about (I rarely use my cell phone).

For portable computing, I have my MBP 13", and if I wanted lighter, I'd get an Air. I am wedded to real keyboards.

Yes.

But I have no intention of buying one any time soon.

Yes.

I still use the original iPod touch for reading - and I am a geezer with bi-focals - no problem even for me old eyes reading on iPod touch, so I am sure reading on iPad mini will be a huge improvement for me. But, I will wait until I can play with one a while to compare it to full size iPad. My wife has iPad 2 and we love it! She has cell model and uses it for work daily doing consulting, etc. with it.

I think the iPad mini might work for me...

Nope, I ordered an iPD 3rd gen. instead.

I think this new iPad could be much more popular - it's literally half the weight of the original iPad.

This means it can be a one-handed device.

That's huge (so to speak!)

But I have to see one first.

I think that the next time 'round, the miniPad will be available with a Retina display.

Unless- the 1024x768 (or whatever) resolution looks noticeably better on the miniPad then it does on the iPad 2. The Pixels were easy to see on the 2. I got used to ignoring them, but after having the New iPad, looking at the 2 was like looking at a dot-matrix print out.

What's the PPI of the 2, the new iPad, and the miniPad?

The miniPad will also make a great GPS device for my bike.

Yes, but it's priced about $100 too high for the value I'd get from it. Nice item, but doesn't fit my budget right now.

No, I use my Fire primarily to read, play music, some video, light browsing, occasional apps - I have no need for a camera on a tablet.

Wi-Fi vs cellular?

I always have Wi-Fi available (via my cellphone if nothing else).

Happy to stay on the cheap side of the tablet world (wouldn't surprise me to see refurb Fire at $99 for the holidays).
