Nope. They make like a big floating floor. I even tried to shift the whole thing a bit, when I had it about half done, and it would not budge. They have a small amount of flex to them, but you need that to make sure they conform to the deck, but they feel solid and do not move around at all.

The bottom of the grid has a series of circular supports, where the boards are screwed to the grid, so the weight is distributed evenly over the substructure and also allows water to drain and I guess a little airflow.
