After another iOS update and once again Music includes online music in the display despite that being turned off. Gotta "force quit" the app and relaunch it to show offline music only. I'm DONE with it.

ecoute looks like a winner. I'll test it over the weekend. Otherwise, I'll move on to the other suggestions.
thanks all

I've got 3 in rotation I'm currently playing with, Ecoute, TapTunes and Onkyo HF.
First impressions:
Ecoute looks and acts like Music in the sense it's got that tiny Play/Pause button way down at the bottom and the "back" nav upper left. This layout obscures Prev and Next navigation in favor of navigating directly from the song list so long as you can find the blinking icon for the playing song or read the songs in the list at a glance. Not my preference. Also, I can currently get it to easily lock up for a few seconds by tapping a playing song or something.
TapTunes is most interesting to me right now. It's FAST and rewards my preference for seeing the artwork while playing a song with Prev/Next nav. I like being able to double tap artwork to pause/play. Also, its "back" button in the upper left is merely an "X" that for whatever reason makes more intuitive sense than "back to something" (even though it's of course doing the same thing.) Perhaps it's just a clearer target to see, but that's still meaningful.

Full disclosure: I helped the dev beta test this app. He was very responsive to bugs that I came across and issues fixes fairly quickly when new ones are found.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll try Ecoute.
And yes, the new Music app sucks like an Electrolux.
