Gates is removed from any sort of daily role at MS, so he can put on his "emeritus" hat and engage in theoreticals as much as he desires.

But the irony is that Nadella has been almost silent, and yet MS is also currently fighting a DOJ subpoena over emails that MS has stored on its Irish servers.

The real problem is that the cat was let out of the bag, publicly.
The feds shoulda kept their mouths shut, and clandestinely contacted Apple, and as others noted, had Apple hardware hack the specific phone (under supervision if desired), and turn over the phone's info. This whole media circus should never have happened. This whole iOS security conundrum should not exist. Somebody screwed the pooch; film at eleven...
OK, that's it for house pets.
