I have a Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz with an 80 gig/5400 rpm HD.
Can anyone recommend a 7200 rpm HD that's 100 Gig or more that
I can safely use in this laptop without over heating concerns??
Also is installing the HD user installable or should I have an authorize
Apple repair center do it??
TIA,
Prof

what do you have on that drive?
you're paying a lot for 20GB of storage and a small speed increase.
just get a full size external/

Mobility is the key reason for the upgrade. I'm looking to travel light.
That Hitachi Travelstar looks good. Thanks for the link!

2.5" 7200rpm drives max out at 100GB. If I were going to bother, I'd go up to 160GB, although they are 5400rpm, the denser, perpendicular recording supposedly makes them a little faster than your standard 5400rpm drive.
I've done two hard drive swaps on 15" Alum. G4's and malled the DVD slot a little both times (a little less on the 2nd machine). There's a clasp that you have to unhook blindly behind the slot and it isn't easy.

No heat problems with new drives.
Maybe those drives that were built in the 1930's ran hot, but not anymore.
