I had an older phone with "pay-as-you-go Legacy" plan which is no longer being offered. T-Mobile had a sales about 2-3 months ago and I got some phones.
I activated a HTC Desire 530 and I was able to activate it on the old plan, and kept the same number. I had about $8 left in that account. After a few days, the t-mobile web site showed my new phone in that account. I understand this is required before you add $100 and then unlock the phone. my Dad used the phone for several weeks and now the account was low, so I added the $100 refill the phone came with. That was on July 1. I tried to unlock the phone via the App, it gets denied each time.
meanwhile I had another phone, LG Aristo, which I activated on the new pay-as-you-go plan (minimum usages $3/month). The phone has 30 min/30 text messages ($3) preloaded, but I did not use the phone and it probably expired. I opened up the phone, I loaded $100, and then I figured out the phone number was from a Atlantic city. I called customer service and they gave me a number from my local exchange (Princeton). I tried to unlock this morning and it worked just fine.
Any idea why the LG Aristo on pay-as-you-go was able to get unlocked, and why the HTC on the Legacy Plan didn't get unlocked? Both have had $100 added to the account.
