BillMac - thanks for the stand mixer kit suggestion. We have a Kenwood stand mixer, and they also have an ice cream maker kit. Makes 1 quart at a time. Kenwood site says it takes a half hour.
Kenwood "Frozen Dessert Maker Attachment AT956A" http://www.kenwoodworld.com/en-us/produc...awat956b02 Haven't shopped it, but his site has the Kenwood ice cream maker kit for $63.96, and I think a 10% off coupon popped up when I first went to the site: https://www.everythingkitchens.com/kenwo...t956a.html But I still suggest the Donvier devices if kids are involved. Bet you could find one for $5 at a thrift store. They work fairly quickly (especially the smaller ones) and the kids "got to make it themselves". Good luck. - Winston

We have an "old fashioned" maker with the incredibly noisy motor and it will probably last another generation if the barrel doesn't rot out first. But, it's not conducive to making ice cream indoors and the rock salt is a pain and messy.

You should give serious thought about upgrading to a Jelly Bean, Kit Kat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, or possibly Oreo machine... or maybe even iOS...
