Keeping with tradition, I chose the hottest day of the year to install my air conditioner

No AC for us. The bracket isn't quite right, ugh.

You don't have to shovel the heat.

No, but I have to mow the grass. I'd much rather shovel because my driveway is short but my yard is large.

Istead of removing it, how about covering it for when you don't need it? I'm looking at a week of triple figure heat PLUS humidity...we use it pretty much from March to October!

This is the north. I would either freeze to death or pay a ton for heat in the winter without being able to seal the window properly.

From the Too Much Information Department, the windows in my house are not normal; they are horizontal sliders. I made a custom screen that fits above the AC unit so I can have the window open when I want. When I want to "close" the window, I use a custom cut piece of plexiglass secured with foam rubber shims. It works well for moderate temperatures but I would be crazy to keep it through the winter.

I replaced a screen on my attic exhaust fan today after cleaning out a bird nest that was built there in the spring.

That was a bit hot.
