tipping "counter " staff
#21
I do if it seems applicable. I definitely do at the local pizza shop, especially if it's a hot and humid day such as what we're currently going through around here.

It must be brutal putting in a shift next to a hot oven all day. I should know. I worked many years in antiquated auto factories that were hotter than 'ell! Row after row of machines as big as houses pumping out some extreme heat.

There is a tip jar at the local pizza place, almost stereotypically run by a Greek-American family and serves Pepsi, not Coke. If I go in and just order and take out an item, no tip. If I phone in an order for pickup and ask for something special, then I might drop a dollar in. When I go in, place an order and sit down, then I will tip because they bring the food to the table and don't charge until we are done and know how many drinks to add.
