So, those of us who don’t record (feed the TV from some box) will be replacing incomparable televisions in a few years?

It is expected that converter boxes will be available, so you won’t have to trash your perfectly good TV.

Think of an ATSC 3.0 box the size of a Raspberry Pi, the size of a pack of cards. The worst part will be needing a second remote.

It sucks from an E-waste point of view to replace a 50" to 80" TV in five years if you will only accept an all-in-one solution, but you should be able to buy a new 70" 4K TV for under $500.

.....no worries......as the eyes get older.....one won't be able to discern 4K....from 1080.........and 1080 is good for most.......getting 4K can cost 4k..........

Don't upgrade until Tivo releases something that can decode ATSC 3.0...the current Bolt can't.

Thanks, that makes it very clear that I don't want to upgrade at this time.

Also, just FYI, but the $350 TiVo Bolt option you described is the cable version (and only works with cable). The OTA version would only be $250 in that sale. But, in addition, it should be noted that TiVo switched to 2.5" hard drives in the Bolt and Edge, which limit maximum (convenient) capacity.

I'm going to experiment with using an external drive with an Edge. Weaknees has an external solution, but I prefer not to pay their premium. Someone also put an 8TB SSD into a Bolt, although that's a really expensive solution and an SSD isn't the best option for the way the TiVo uses its drive.

I think it works with both cable and Antenna:

Ah yes, that may be true. I forgot there's a 4 tuner cable/OTA version, in addition to the 4 tuner OTA version and 6 tuner cable version. It's annoying that they don't put any useful specifics on the page.
