“ Kyrie Irving fined $50,000 for flipping off Boston Celtics fans during Game 1 “

“ plays basketball at his position better than anyone else “

He’s lots of fun to watch when the ball is in his hands.

Not so much on defense.

Kyrie gives up final basket in game 1:

Not really a team player.

RgrF, didn't you leave about 40 years ago? No place is like it was 4 decades ago. Not that I've ever understood the obsession with sports at any level approaching sports radio fanaticism.

Left right after the winter of '78 and left behind 5, now 4 siblings so travel back and forth was routine. The youngest bro runs a youth sports mini-empire (uniforms, banquets, travel teams, ocean vacations - the whole magilla) and although we don't often get to take in many games together, we do when together, he assures me he has to shut up around most of his clientele. He was once part of that whole ignorant scene himself but decided to grow up once the 4th in line sib came out.

I have always been astounded that Boston, long ranked among the most highly educated American cities on a per capita basis, is also one of the most racist American cities. That just does not compute for me.

It's primarily a 'town & gown" thing. Remove the education/medical establishment, people who move within their own sphere, from the equation and you're left with Pittsburgh or maybe Tulsa.

I grew up about a half mile from where Obama later sojourned in Somerville, you can be sure he wasn't hangin' with the townies during his time there.

Like you said. Kyrie is a flake. He is what he is. I admire his play (even his defense). But I don't admire his ignorant and dangerous "stances" on important issues. I don't mind him throwing the finger though. I feel like that's "all in the game."

His lack of defensive effort was a real liability at times when he was with the Celtics. He has made improvements over the course of his career, to be fair.

“ I don't mind him throwing the finger though. “

I don’t really disagree, but it isn’t a good look for prime time, family accessible entertainment. The league can’t (and shouldn’t) ignore it.

Abusive fans should also be properly dealt with.

Abusive fans should also be properly dealt with.

Isolated fans are dealt with but there has never been any concerted effort to curtail abuse at Fenway or the Garden (where fans are up close and do get personal) - that's the sort of effort that might actually have an impact but to date Red Sox and Celtic management haven't decided it's a thing.
