Our government and media really has to stop pretending they care about gun violence.
On May 3rd there were two mass shootings in America
1 in Atlanta where 5 people were shot, 1 died and another in Chicago, 5 people shot, but no one died.
Everyone heard about the Atlanta shooting but once it was discovered a black man shot 5 women with a handgun, news quickly ended, it no longer appears on CNN top news where it would typically stay for a week. CNN is still running articles about the mass shooting in Serbia, but nothing about Atlanta. Still better than the complete lack of news coverage about the Chicago event.
Leaders in Atlanta called for an AR-15 ban after the mass shooting, again deflecting from the real problem. The Atlanta killer BTW went to the same hospital a week prior saying he was having a mental breakdown and needed help, he was sent away, only to return a week later with a handgun...... Now I would guess the facility he went to (the woman who died was employed by the CDC) was 100% not the right place for mental health care but this still shows we need some sort of mental health care system.
Compared to 2021 and 2022, we had fewer mass shootings in 1986, back when anyone could go and buy a fully automatic weapon. Did the assault weapons act of 1986 than banned military grade weapons and fully automatic weapons fix anything? Why would anyone think banning semi automatic rifles work?
